The pipe it self is fine but the 'galanized nipple' is rotted out...do I need only to replace the galvanized nipple or the entire pipe?
Thanks
Jen

Thats called a P trap, Just replace the whole thing, The parts are cheap and it,s easier than having to go back and fix it again later

Just replace the nipples that are bad. No need to waste money replacing things that are not bad use care when taken things apart so as not to case excess damage and create more problems however. Good luck

You will have to replace the 'U' portion of the pipe. It should already have threaded connectors at both ends, so it will be relatively simple if you are mechanically competent. Don't forget plumber's putty or Teflon tape on the threads to reseal them.

Perhaps it just needs tightening.

It is possible also that the pipe is polybutylene, and has been eaten away.
