We just had a heat pump installed a couple years ago. For two winters now I've notice a smell every now and again. It's growing increasingly more common lately. It's almost like dry ice. It's a very dry, smokey smell but it doesn't smell like anything's burning. Just a very dry smell (if that makes sense). Any ideas?

I posted a question on how to fix my basement drain. Well we have now been using a snake on it for an hour or so and the water has gone down about 4 inches. I am assuming that we are slowlyi unclogging it, however we are having to take black gunk off of it. What could this be? And are there any chemicals to get through it?????

The unit is a Westinghouse gas heater that works, but the fan does not come on when I have the settings to "heat" and "auto". If I set the fan to "on", the fan kicks in and my place gets warm. On the other hand if I set the AC to "cool" and "auto", it works perfectly...the fan comes on when it needs to. I thought it might be the thermostat, and I bought a new one and the same problem happened.
This began only after I changed a round 15amp fuse near the electrical outlet...if this help anyone who know about these things. I took the motor out and checked all the wires, but they look fine.

Aside from replacing it (I know I should), any ideas on what the problem could be?
Thank you!

I'm having a 60 year-old brain freeze, been 43 years since High School shop class, I can't remember what is measured by volts, amps, or watts, the only thing that I remember is that ohms measure resistance, Not really important just want a refresher.
I know that one measures volume, one measures pressure, and then what?

I have some wood cabinets in my kitchen that need cleaning. I need to know what is the best cleaner out there for such a chore. I know of Murphy's Oil Soap, but I wanted to be sure if it was the best out there.

My vacuum decided to stop working today and I am looking for some advice or whether I should take it to be repaired or just buy a new one..I wish I could be specific on what the problem is, possibly electrical as it will no longer turn on. This is Eureka brand bagless vacuum, approximately 4 1/2 years old. I am leaning towards buying a new one as I am sure even minor repairs would cost at least half the value of the vacuum.

I've used cleansers from Home depot that claim to clean and freshen up the smell but don't have success beyond 3 days. I've used gels, pipe cleaning solutions, Drano, cleaning the pipe as far down as I can reach. The home is 20 years old. It's almost as if the trap isn't working to keep odors out. I had this problem at my last home (on a slab foundation), this is a second story shower stall. The common denominator is both were stalls. Haven't had any issues with bathtubs or toilets.
