GE washers use a coupling system to drive the tub. The coupling is a very inexpensive part that you can purchase from most any appliance repair, sales center. Try logging onto repairclinic.com and this site will help you diagnose your problem for free and give you a list of recommended repair parts. I have used it many times.

I have had the same thing happen. There is a drive belt that runs from the more to the washer hopper.
If you look under there you will find a broke belt. take this belt to your hardware store and they will be able to get you a new one.

Could be the agitate solenoid is bad or if your lucky just stuck. It should be under the washer with lever on it to engage and disengage the gearbox for agitate mode. Unplug washer, remove inspection plate, locate solenoid, plug in washer and place in wash cycle, watch solenoid and see if it actuates the lever. If not very carefully take screwdriver and help it to actuate if possible. If it does acutate turn off and unplug washer, lube all moving parts on solenoid, try again and see if it goes through cycles....

There might not be a belt, and it might just be shot. Sorry. I just replaced a washer after only 5 years. It sucks!

If it had a belt, it's not on the pulleys anymore. Check it!
