Start by replacing the thermocouple. Do the main burners ever come on after relighting? Is there any kind of draft that could be knocking out the pilot whether the draft be from the inside or strong currents of wind backing down the flue? Check this though! The thermostat maybe satisfying at a temperature below you desired water temp preference. Turn the stat up to a hotter setting.

u . s . there isn't any thank you to inexpensively fix that stat. it may be extra value-effective to interchange it. even inspite of the shown fact that, in the previous doing so, verify that the stat is the difficulty. Sludge build-up interior the backside of a water heater reduces its performance. An erratic gasoline grant stress will reason the water heater to lose performance. If the water heater is extra advantageous than ten years previous, evaluate changing it with an "instant" water heater that has no storage tank. My brother have been given his warm water from the homestead boiler equipment. interior the summertime he became paying $a hundred gasoline bill for warm water. We put in a tankless water heater - the gasoline bill went all the way down to $27 in line with month. And he has secure warm water. despite you return to a determination, it somewhat is ultimate to have an approved expert plumber do the artwork.

How long has it been doing this? Is it fairly windy right now?

Are you turning the valve to "on" or leaving it on "pilot"? If you are turning it to "on", try leaving it on pilot for 1/2 hour.

Have you had any work done on the house in the past week or two?
