I have a tall florescent floor lamp that doesn't work. Is is possible to replace the ballast in something so tall? I'm not having any luck finding anything at the local home improvement stores and no one seems to know anything.

Or is it too much of a hassle, or even possible, to dismantle the sections and re-run the wiring? Thanks in advance!

The vacuum cleaner is 15 years old and when I asked in local shops they said that it was too old. The filters are 10 x 9 cm. Is it possible to get third party replacements or are there any current Electrolux models with filters the same size?

Any trim guys out there ever had to do this? I have a baluster system on a roof with a 12/12 slope. The 12 inch square columns are already installed ( they stick up about three feet) but I'm trying to put the 1 X6 base (and base cap) around the bottom of the posts. I cut the "front" portion of the base and put the 45 degree miters on each end. I ripped the "side" pieces (that run up the roof) to the new height (since there at a 45 degree angle they had to be cut down so as to align with the top of the "front" piece of base). Here's where I'm having trouble. Whatever height I make the side (sloped) pieces of base I either line up with the "inner" edge of the front base and am missing the "outer" edge of the front base or the opposite if I make the height align with the "outer"edge of the front base. I can fiddle with this and maybe notch it to hob nob it, but then I still have a mess when it comes to the base cap. I can't seem to get it right. I have a compound slide saw.

I have recently cleaned my upvc windows using a cleaner and a plastic pad, one what you would use to wash up with, not the green sponge one a plastic type, however I have noticed that this plastic pad has left small scatch marks on the glass! can anyone recomend any product or a way of removing these scratches from the glass ?

I have been combating roaches since my move in date 3 months ago. The apartment complex is brand new, 3 stories tall, 4 apt. per floor, 4 bed/bath per apt. I contacted the office twice now and last time they had a pest control company come out and spray along some of the base boards and set some traps, but the cockroaches are back again. The first time we were finding adult cockroaches, and this time around I'm only finding baby (small) cockroaches. A majority of the ones I have found have been alive and are typically walking on the ceiling or at the top of the walls. The problem has slowly progressed, as the first day I found 1, the second say 2, 3 the third day, and 6 today. I told the office and they gave me the good ole "when we get around to it." I keep my bedroom pretty clean and never eat in it. You'd think id be finding the roaches in my bathroom, but have never seen them there, nore have I found them in the kitchen, mainly my bedroom and I'm the cleanest. Am I infested?

Is it thick and strong enough to store valuables in and keep the "Average" crook out. (Not professional crooks) I hear they can open most anything given enough time. Oh, by the way this is one of those safes that only opens with the owners fingerprint.(Biometrics) Thanks :)

Please list reasons why you personally chose to buy a water softener for your home in the order of most importance to least importance. And which brand did you choose?

Some reasons to stir up your mind: features of the water softener, the benefits to your home, cheaper than hard water, skin problems, less home cleaning, extending appliances, clothes, and so on.

All comments are great.

I have an Invacare floor lift that has the worst hand controller that I can think of!! It has 2 buttons. 1 up, 1 down. Instead of 1 on top and the other on the bottom (common sense), they are side by side AND ...the buttons are so recessed that I've got to have my thumb exactly in the middle of the button. Call me crazy but I'd sooner watch my daughter when she's going up & down in the sling than having to look at the hand controller to see where the buttons are located.

I'm trying to find another controller that has the buttons mounted vertically and with the buttons that are not indented. I worked in a factory about 30 years ago that had about 1000 hoists, from 1 ton to 250 tons. Everyone of them had buttons mounted vertically. or .......

How can I change this controller to have those qualities?

Thank you

It's a drop ceiling, and a tile fell out. The original tile won't work anymore. The only thing I can think of to do is nail boards over the hole. That's going to look stupid. Does anyone have any suggestions of something else I could use/do?
Thanks!
