usually that means the tank has lost its air. its easy to check. there should be a stem on the tank somewhere. remove the cap and depress the valve inside. if water comes out it means you have a busted bladder and the tank needs to be replaced. if no water comes out you just need to add some air. you first want to cut off the power to the tank then drain all the water out. use a tire pump or air compressor and add air to the tank. its important to know what pressure gauge you have because you need to put 2 lbs less air than the cut on pressure. i.e if its a 20/40 switch you need 18 lbs of air if its a 30/50 you need 28 lbs of air. if this doesn't correct the problem before i would switch out the tank i would check the pipe nipple going to the bottom of the pressure switch to make sure it was not stopped up with corrosion because this can cause the same situation.

If your well water pump goes off and on rapidly it is because you need air in the water tank. A certian amount of air is needed in the tank as an air cushion. Most newer tanks have a bladder to hold air permenantly. If you have a modern bladder tank the bladder is shot and the tank must be replaced. If you have an old tank it will have an air inlet stem. Simply pump air into it and pump will cycle normaly.

Your tank is waterlogged, or you have a hole in your drop pipe. If you have a bladder tank ,you may have to replace the tank , although some brands have repaceable bladders. If it is anon bladder, shut the pump off, drain the tank. You should have some way to allow air into the tank. look for a place to use an airhose. Call your pump guy. Good luck

Are you talking about a well? I think when they do that there is a place where you have to put pressurized nitrogen or something like that.
