This is an older house. I've replaced light fixtures and did that wiring okay. Now I'm thinking about changing a dimmer switch to a regular switch, replacing an old dimmer switch with a new one, and replacing a regular outlet with a ground fault interrupter outlet.

Is that too complicated or are those things pretty easy? The one thing I worry about is that this is an older house with several owners over the years. Some of the wiring I've seen is pretty outdated. I wonder if an electrician would notice a safety problem in the existing wiring and I wouldn't.

Most will probably tell me NO, but I want your sources. I have seen them used inside the cabin on boats before. Is it Ok, to use if I have good ventilation and front to back cross breeze?

I just moved into an apartment with this old gas heater that is so difficult to start. There are no instructions besides "turn all valves to off position. Wait for 5 min. Apply lighted match to pilot at the bottom of firebox. If equipped with manual reset safety valve, turn knob to pilot position and depress button or turn knob hard left aginst the stop until pilot remains lighted when released".

I turned the knob into pilot position, and while keeping it pressed, put the match to all sorts of places near the pilot- nothing happened. Actually I didn't see any holes through which the light from the match could start the ignition.

Did anyone have experience with one of those? The model is "Holly Del Mar". There is this large rectangular heating section on the wall, the pilot box is at the bottom.

A 3 mm is a bit too small to remove the faucet in my kitchen, so I figure the next size up has to be a standard (not metric) size.

Hi,
I have a 60 year old house. While doing an addition, I discovered that the outlets were running from the panel, through the kitchen, to the living room, and then the garage. Was this the normal way to wire back then?? Every time I have the TV( living room), washer (garage), Frig and microwave (kitchen) on, the circuit breaker trips. I am doing the wiring for my new addition, and can put the living room and garage on a seperate circuit. Is this wise?? It sounds like a good idea, but I want to make sure.
Thanks for your time

Water pools before draining.

I know that hair is the problem.

The plug is non-removable and gets in the way of plunging.

A door has been forced open, and in so doing the screws holding the hinge to the frame have been broken off just below the head - which means just inside of the screw hole. I don't want to refit the hinges elsewhere on the door / door frame. Any ideas how to remove the screws please?
