Romex is a group of wires sheathed in plastic coverings. It will have 3 or 4 wires encased. The 3 wire is used for 110 volt wiring and contains black (hot), white (neutral) and bare copper (ground) wires. The 4 wire has the same wires with the addition of a fourth red wire. It is used for 220 volt applications and 3 and 4 way switches. In most areas it only needs to be put in conduit where it is exposed to possible damage.
Conduit is used to protect wires. It can be metal or plastic, rigid or flexible.Multiple single strand wires or Romex can be run through it.
By the way, Romex is labeled NM and UF. NM is for indoor use and UF is meant for underground burial applications. UF cable is harder to work with because the wires are actually molded and encased in the sheathing.

Romex is wires wrapped in a protective sheath and can be run inside walls without being in conduit.

Condit is what you NEED to run wires thru walls that aren't protected like romex is.
