It depends on the condition of the floor.
Staining solutions contain inorganic salts that when dissolved in water, react with the minerals in concrete to create a beautiful variety of colors. Acid Stains are not paints; they are chemical solutions that react with minerals in concrete. The chemicals penetrate through concrete pores to form a durable and
permanent color. Stains will not cover blemishes in the concrete. These are not paints and therefore, any blemish in the concrete that was visible prior staining will still be visible afterward.
If the floor has blemishes, a good quality concrete paint, such as DryLok would be better.

Don't use concrete "stain" as sold by H.Depot, Lowe's, S-Williams as they are an acrylic finish with reduced color in them; NOT TRUE STAINS. Virtually guaranteed to peel, scrape up. Require acid washing, priming. Acid stains do stain, but must be THOROUGHLY rinsed or the finish will turn to "glue". Recommend epoxy, polyurea aspartic, novalac, or one of the "thane" products. These require acid etching, but will last much longer. Be sure to broadcast a very fine quartz LIGHTLY into any finish for slip-resistance.

My garage floor is at the top of a hill and I painted the entry way which usually gets wet from rain and snow, with paint with the grit in it. It looks nice and is efficient in the same way as it helps me get safely into the garage on rainy or snowy days. I'm sure whichever you choose you will be happy with. Best of luck to you.

My father painted their garage floor. It look beautiful until my mother came wheeling in with wet tires and slid thru the back wall.
Now, that could have been driver error, ask my dad.
Just an experience I wanted to share with you.
Stain may be different or adding something to the paint may prevent slippage.
