The cord string that extends and retracts the blinds came detached. I am only able to retract the blinds, but not extend it with the string unless I pull on the blinds manually. The rotation of the blinds work.

I recently bought my first home. It is a two story townhouse. I have never lived in a two-story home before and am a first time homeowner. The problem is that the heating and air conditiong work fine downstairs, but very little of it gets upstairs. The result is comfortable downstairs, very hot upstairs. I tried closing the vents downstairs to force the air up, but it really doesn't help that much at all. I have started sleeping on the living room sofa because it is so hot upstairs and I honestly can't afford to replace the furnace/cooling system. I wonder if cleaning the air ducts/vents will help improve the air circulation of heating and cooling? I asked the person who cleans my furnace every year and he said no.

so i have a family of sparrows living in my chimney. i first noticed peeping sounds about 2 weeks ago, and they have gotten progressively louder since then. now my house sounds like the aviary at the zoo. anyways, i figure that there is a nest with hatchlings in it and they are getting bigger. i realize that the quickest way to remove the birds would be to build a fire, however, i don't dig too much on killing baby birds. i was thinking about waiting until the birds are grown and leave the nest, however it is getting really noisy, and what if there are other nests as well? i am pretty sure that the birds are sparrows if that help with your advice any. thanks for the help!

Is it common for a home builder to tie the airconditioner run off into a sink line?
I have been remodeling and removed my vanity and installed a pedistal sink. The sink works fine but there is a pipe that sticks about 6 inches out of the wall near all of the other pipes. We couldn't figure out what this pipe was for until we started running our airconditioner and found that the builder of our house tied the run off from the airconditioner into our sink. We now have a pipe that sticks out of the wall with a flowing stream of water while the air is on. Does anyone know how to tie the pipes back into the main pipe system. We can not cap it off for obvious reasons. I do not want a bucket sitting under my sink all summer long.
PLEASE HELP!

I have an old fridge which works perfectly well but is beginning to look unsightly. The plastic handle and top is yellowing with age but the case of the fridge is still white. Does anybody have any helpful suggestions?

Does anyone know what type of indoor mold would be bluish-green (aquamarine), small, and circular?

I've performed an over-the-counter mold test in my basement, and that was the primary result in the Petri dish. A control test outdoors showed a wider variety of molds, but a lot less of the aquamarine type.

Thanks for your knowledge/guesses.

I need to get my husband in the mood to start fixing up our house again. We bought a fixer upper in december of 05 and we worked on it a little for the first month or two and now I can't seem to get him motivated again. Used to I would get started and then he would take over and start working on it but that doesn't work anymore. We have two bathrooms and they are horrible and I want him to fix them. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get him motivated again? He knows how to do the stuff becasue thats what he does for a living. I have begged him to start on the bathrooms and he says I will, but WHEN? I know I need to make him think that it is his idea but how do I do that? Please help!!! My bathrooms are driving me insane.

I’ve just moved into a new home and I have noticed a wet patch of grass about 10 sq ft big that never seems to dry out, and one corner of this area touches my property. I recently had a painter in and he noticed there was a little dampness inside the house in that corner.

Outside that corner of the house is a sprinkler pipe and then the area of wet land. I obviously have something wrong that needs to be addressed but who do I call. A plumber because it’s probably water pipe related or a landscaper the person that would normally install a sprinkler system?
