Why not put some money aside for replacement. Then advertise with a "seller to allow X-amount for carpet replacement"? If you replace it the new buyer probably would have preferred something different anyway.

How bad is the carpet? Will it be a major turn off for potential buyers? Most people want a house in move-in condition. They don't want to mess with fixing much right away. Do you have hardwood floors underneath?

I personally would try and get the house looking as good as possible before showing it. It's a bit of a risk to leave it up to potential buyers to picture the house with the new carpet..I would be sure and put in a neutral color though,,nothing too bright!!..the house should show as close to a model home as possible,,lived in but not cluttered

I would use it in negotiation. The new owners might not have the same taste as you, and they might not like the new carpet that you choose - so it would be a wasted expense for you. Also, the new owners might want to put down tile or hard wood. Have it professionally cleaned and talk to your Realtor about it.

You'll probably get more money for the house if it looks good. I would either get a commercial steam cleaner and clean it well, or if it isn't salvagable, rip it up and replace it with an inexpensive carpet. Good luck with your sale....I just sold my house and moved so I know how ya feel!

I think you should re-do it. Would you sell your car w/out washing it first. Putting in new carpet will add more value to your home and will sell much faster than if the carpet is crap.

Use it as a tool to negotiate. What if you pick a color that people don't like or don't match their stuff. Give them a carpet allowance with a full price offer. This way they can pick any color or type they want.

Definitely have it re done. it will increase some value of the house. Also the chances will be greater for it to be sold sooner. negotiating makes you lose money.

If people see a crummy carpet, it's going to affect the way they see the whole house. It's worth it to replace it; or, if it's nice wood underneath, just remove it all together and sand and stain the wood.

It depends how fast you want to move the house. I would re-do it and then you can ask for a little more, even more then it cost you to put it in. Alot of people want houses that they dont have to do alot of work on, right away. You might get people that say its a nice house , if only...........
