We want to plant a low (2-3 foot) hedge around our patio. The patio is raised about a foot from the rest of the garden - the hedge would be planted at the lower level so would need to be a foot high before even showing above the patio. We're torn between box and privet - box seems too low (it would take years to grow above the start of the patio), while privet seems too high.

Due to imminent care of our grandchildren, we have to fill in a garden pond sized 6 widex4 longx2.5 feet deep.
Its set into a hole in a paved patio and has a thick plastic liner surround.
It faces south west in the dry climate of East Anglia (UK)
Any brilliant ideas out there on the best way to do this and what you would convert the space to??

I need to repot one of my Orchids. Can you use a solid brass pot? Yes, it has lots of drainage, but I can't find anything on repotting in a metal container. What about copper?Think the tarnishing will hurt it? Thanks, and my Orchid thanks you too.

My neighbour and I bought two semidetached cottages with 180 foot of brambles and overgrown 'forest'. As we cleared the land I made a rough guess where the boundary was and now we think it's out. My neighbour is keen to leave things alone, but I want to put up a fence now - in the right place - have hired a Chartered Surveyor as Land registry plans dont help. Anyone been in a similar situation, or can offer advise please?

Our lawn looks bad. I do not know what happened. This year we've got weeds also. We want to repair our lawn by adding new grass. I heard that there are some kinds of grass that last long and even oust weeds.

I live in the UAE so for 10 months of the year our air conditioning is on and off throughout the day. Everytime I've tried to grow seeds they die soon after sprouting. I've kept them in the dark, then brought them out and tried to keep them in the most evenly based temperature place in the house but they just die!

The established houseplants I buy do ok (spider plant, lily, hyacinth, bamboo, ivy, orchid).

Any suggestions please, of seeds that are a bit sturdier? Less likely to die on me?! Or is it something maybe I'm doing wrong?

Does anyone know the correct way to trim a Rose of Sharon Hybiscus and a Lilac and Forcythia? I trimmed the Forcythia the wrong way and new branches grew awkwardly and unattractive.
