I don't know if there's a best-way, per se, but you might try this:

One good way is to wipe your floors and countertops frequently with a cleaning solution, because that wipes away the ants' chemical trails. Ants follow the same pathway all the time, based on a smell that a scout left as she went around looking for food. If you eliminate the scent trails, the ants can't go that way again until another ant goes out and finds the food source again.

I know it'll sound funny but make a mixture of half either Pine Sol or Simple Green and half water. It's safe and it will kill the ants and remove their trail.

To keep them out of the house, line all your doorways and windowframes with baby powder. In the garden, empsom salts work fairly well.
