I know that you need to plant the fringed and/or parrot tulips away from the normal tulips because they have a virus that causes that anomaly. My question is this: How far apart do you need to plant them from each variety?

I live in Los Angeles. It has been in the 70's by day, 40's by night, with rainy season still to come. My roses keep trying to sprout new buds, even though I cut them all the way back in December - shouldn't they be dormant? Should I snap off the new growth or just let them be?

I have seeds for Osmanthus fragrans, and I see that they can take a *very* long time to germinate... years, in fact. Has anyone done this? Is there something I can do to speed the process? I'm willing to experiment: boiling water, hydrogen peroxide, the old nick&soak, "smoke treatment," whatever. I can't find any information about this.
Thanks.

I live in Oklahoma, and I don't want to miss the planting season coming up... I want to plant anything and everything I possibly have room for!
Please tell me what to do if you are a successful gardener - I don't have time for visits to the local gardening classes- had a baby, but still want to plant all I can successfully.

Should I wait until March - ie the spring, when the growing season starts? I live in the south east - and I suppose you could argue that the weather is so warm now that the grass doesn't stop growing - but all experienced advice would be gratefully received.

My backyard floods between January and April along the outmost edge of my property. I want to plant some shrubs or bushes along the edge of my yard where the flooding occurs to alleviate some of the flooding. Can anyone recommend a species of bush or shrub that will grow in zone 5 in a mostly clay soil that is tolerant of very dry and very wet conditions?

How do I know they are dead? They are to small for me to see. I do see their webs though. Are these old webs or cob webs or what?

I shower it a while ago -- you know. In the tub. But the webs remain.

The tree seems to be much healthier. Less dried out but when I shake it I still get a few leaves still falling off.

I hate to spray it again. It lost a lot of leaves but these webs drive me nuts.

I live in a California desert community that features 3 small water features--rare for the desert. We are overrun with geese, coots and ducks all winter long and nothing seems to repel them. The grounds are covered with bird excrement to the point I believe it is a health hazard. I have been exploring a product called a Bird-X sonic repellent that scares geese away with the recorded sounds of geese honking in distress. The birds hear the noise and then fly off. I've seen one of these working in an office park in Virginia, but never in California. Does anyone out there have one of these in operation? Are you satisfied with it? Does it keep geese, ducks and coots away? Is the range sufficient? The units are expensive ($825 a piece) and noisy so I want to make sure it works before I make the commitment.

Thank you!
Jodi

I had a landscaper lay flagstone over a large area in my yard. They left up to 12" between stones in places and filled inbetween with black dirt. When it rains it is a muddy mess (I have dogs) I tried adding a topcoat of crushed rock, didn't really help. Suggestions?

The moles have set up and extensive underground network in my neighborhhod. I used to keep them undercontrol with poison peanuts, and grub killer. But I've let them go wild a few year due to small children and not wanting to expose them to the chemicals.

Now they are massively out of control and pulling fill sand from under the garage. What in your experience is the best way to deal with them? Grub killer? What kind? What did best for you?

I think trapping would be useless since they are all over the neighborhood, and I dont want to trap everyones moles. Have also heard preadator littler is a good way.

I'm even considering tilling up the whole yard to destroy the massive tunnel system, or putting in a sprinkler system since the neighbors with sprinkler have much less of a problem (perhaps they dont like the moisture or the cavitation of the pipe?)

Going to war with them soon. Would love some good advice.
