Drives me nuts too Jane!
I understand the sonic deterrents are really good if you get them lined up correctly. They're a bit pricey, but my neighbour swore by his.

Coleus plants can deter cats as well apparently. Also if your borders are full of plants this will crowd out areas available for cats to foul. You could try child's windmills stuck in amongst your plants or half-filled bottles of water laid in among them or on the lawn. Don't know why, but cats don't seem to keen on the movement or reflections or something about them.

I considered an air rifle for a while, or a large vicious dog, but my wife reminded me that this pest was someone's beloved pet. Best stick with the legal methods then.

Hope you have success our thoughts are with you.

I've heard cats don't like the smell of vinegar so use about 2 oz of vinegar in a spray bottle and spray it around

I've also heard the one above about the plastic bottles

or mix 2 tbs of cayenne pepper
3 tbs of powdered Chinese mustard
4 tbs of all purpose flour
in 2 quarts of warm water. allow it to stand for 1 hour then strain and put into a spray bottle and spray around the garden or your property line
this will keep alot of pesky critters away

Get a sonic cat repller. They cost about £30 and the batteries last about 3-4 weeks.
I have used one with 100% success and after about 4 batteries' worth the cat has got the hint and stays away.
Unlike the other solutions, these things don't wash away when it rains - and they work.

Don't waste your time looking in B&Q 'cos they don't ever seem to have them. I got mine from a private hardware shop in Romesy. You can get them mail order.

I have heard that a clear plastic bottle filled with water just laying on the grass will deter them, worth a try and wont cost a thing.
(f it doesnt work pick it up and throw it at them!!!!)
