I live in Oklahoma, and I don't want to miss the planting season coming up... I want to plant anything and everything I possibly have room for!
Please tell me what to do if you are a successful gardener - I don't have time for visits to the local gardening classes- had a baby, but still want to plant all I can successfully.

Get a good garden guide such as the one sunset offers and read up. Call a local nursery and find out exactly what your zone is and follow the directions for your zone. Go online and join a gardeners forum, you can find a lot of tips and tricks there.

Most seeds can be planted when the ground is warm enough to work. Nursery started vegtabels like tomato plants should be planted when the night temperatures stay above 40F (perhaps even a little warmer) after they have been hardened off. Which means that you leave them out on nice days and bring them inside when it cools off at night for about a week or 10 days. This gets them used to being outside without shocking them.

Fruit trees are best planted in the early spring or in the fall.

Fruit vines like raspberry can be planted anytime. The same for fruit bushes.

Since you don't want to take time to visit with local gardening centers, you could ask your neighbors or purchase a gardening book online. Everyone needs some personal expert advice sometime.

Good luck!!!!!

Try to visit your local library. See if you can borrow a video or DVD and they have Introductory to experience gardeners. This way you can keep an I on your child and learn about gardening. I'm a farmer I do this every time I have a new crop to grow they always have a video or DVD to explain what you are about to plant. This way you can keep your new born in your hands and watch at the same time. I hope this helps.Good Gardening.

When you feel up to it put the baby in a pack and go for a walk at the nursery. I know you said you don't have time, but schedule it. The local people can advise you better than any of us who live elsewhere. Peas and beans and corn and lettuce and onins and cabbage and broccoli are great. Herbs are easy, and cosmos and sunflowers and nasturtiums and easy from and colorful. Have fun with the baby and the growing!
