The natural one that plants make is indole 3-acetic acid (IAA). However if you go to a L&G Center you won't find any rooting hormones with IAA in them. Other synthetic hormones have been produced which are stronger and will give better results depending on which plant you are trying to root. IBA (indolebutyric acid) is probably the most popular one because you get good results and it's easy to work with and it's not toxic over a large range of concentrations. Next best would probably be NAA (naphthaleneacetic acid). You can tell what's what just by looking at the label of any root stimulator.
For transplanting, Reynwater has mentioned a good one. You can also look for one containing Viatmain B.

If you have access to a willow tree, cut some pieces and soak them in water for about a day, then discard the willow, but save the water. Put the plant that you want to root into this water. There is supposed to be a growth stimulant in willow that mimics the commercial growth hormone. I haven't had success with this, but maybe you will. I can't think of any other source of hormone other than commercially.
