hi-a couple days ago i planted a hot dog tree and i'm wondering how long it should take to sprout, and just how often it needs water. also what kind of fertiliser do i use? thanks for your advise.

p.s., to any wiseacres out there, no i did'nt bury a regluar hot dog in the ground. i used a soy dog and cutted it in half long-ways, like your supposed to.

I was given 3 small daffodill bulbs in January. The person has the roots in water. Wondering if this is the best way to care for them or should they be in an inside pot of soil? I live in a fairly mild climate in Virginia but it is fairly cold right now. Our other daffodils had started to bloom but we are probably going to lose them now that it has gotten cold finally. Any and all help is appreciated. ;o)

I have a small pool with a Redwood tree that drops a lot of debris into the pool. There is a brown residue on the sides and bottom of the pool that is really unsightly and annoying. Do you have any recommendations on how to remove it?

I have a large area of concrete with a wood-panel fence behind, facing South, and would like to grow some climbers from pots, e.g. clematis/roses. Can you recommend any particular ones which don't mind being in pots, please.

The problem is that I want to screen in my porch next summer. Right now it climbs up a sort of fencing screen, but the screen provides no protection from mosquitos. If I screen that side in I will not be able to get at the grapes from the porch which is about 5 feet above ground level. Any suggestions? It's a great place to sit with a glass of wine at night.

This is my second year vegetable and herb gardening at home. I'd like to know what varieties others have had luck with, and enjoy growing. I'm in Zone 5, but I'd like to hear from other locations as well!

We had pretty bad frost in northern CA this year and sadly our lemon tree was damaged by the cold weather as well as the fruits. I took some of the fruits off but the tree looks pretty bad too. I was wondering if its still too early to cut the tree back in order for it to start growing again as soon as the season starts for these trees.

Our 2 labs have killed several rats and schrews (long snouted mice) in the past 2 months. This is a new problem and It is very concerning to me. The dogs have dug huge holes in the yard. Are the rats burrowing themselves under ground? I know moles and schrews live in burrows.
I can safely put out rat poison on the outside of my fenced property which has empty lots and dense natural foliage. I'd like to stop whatever it is from living in my fenced yard area. Since I'm not sure if rats burrow, I don't know how to get rid of the problem.
