Mole holes are about 1 - 2", gopher holes are 3-4" and a skunk is around 8-12". Moles bore tunnels just below surface, gophers bore deep and skunks just for bedding or a nest.

a mole will leave large bulges all around your yard underneath the soil -looking for grubs or other insects. a gopher will not leave bulges all over your yard only an entrance hole- a skunk will have a much larger entry hole than a gopher or a mole and usually they will only appear at night above ground. the best way to eradicate whatever it is -is to take a garden hose and continue to let the hole fill with water forcing whatever it is out-sometimes it will take awhile but if anything is in the hole in will come out-dano
