Feed in spring when the leaves start to appear. Then feed again (with a high potash feed) just before flowering time.

I'm not sure where you live - wait till after frost. I fert. my shrubs and perennials every 2 weeks or so. I have a garden in full bloom most of the season. Use something like 15-30-15 or 20-20-20 these are bloom booster fert. -- you will be amazed looking at all your beautiful flowers.

Now is a good time to improve the soil by adding compost, rotten manure, chicken poo or any thing similar. When the growing season is in full bloom you will notice a big difference in performance when combined with regular feeding. It is also best to wait before all danger of frost has past because new tender shoots growing too early in the season will be killed in a cold snap.Hope this helps

Feed after threat of frost in your area. and then seasonal after that in pots use time release. for garden a good shrub hedge fertilizer will work . You get what you pay for with fertilizer so low price is usually sand based and will be gone faster then prilled ( pellets) fertilizer. The numbers will decide what you need for that ask garden center help as I could go on with that.

Wait until after the frosts when the ground starts to dry. The rain provides natural nutrients.
