If you have or have had white cabinets, please tell me

- are they painted, stained or whitewash
- bright white, offwhite, distressed, etc
- how easy/hard to maintain (how do you clean them), specially compared to wood finishes
- are they ok with kids
- would you change them if you could?

I'd like it new. It's a gift for my fiance. We live around the Washington DC area, so recommendations on furniture stores, or internet sites are good. Also willing to consider custom furniture places, though I know that can get pricey.

I mean, if I have a standard American full/queen quilt/duvet that I bought somewhere other than IKEA and I purchase an IKEA full/queen quilt cover, will it fit my non-IKEA quilt or duvet? I'm having some trouble getting my plain (not super fluffy or anything) duvet into the IKEA cover. I usually have a little trouble with duvets and their covers no matter where I purchased them, but I was wondering if Ikea quilt covers are only compatible with Ikea quilts. Thank you.

I had some decorations on a wood door and used mounting tape around the edges of the door to secure the decorations. Now I can't get the tape off. It's a puffy white tape, I can get the puffy layer off, but still there is a pretty thick layer of white sticky residue. I've tried oil and "Goo Gone". Nothing is really working. Any other ideas??

Any details (price, quality, etc.) around a pre fab room would be great. Also - I live in San Francisco with many code restrictions, etc. Is this type of pre-fab room excluded from those types of codes/city concerns? Any thoughts on pricing? THANKS!

I heard something about 65cm from the floor. I think that is proper gallery height. I am just trying to get the proper eye level.

I'm about to tear apart my bathroom and I need color ideas. I'm 26 and single, (so keep that in mind-nothing flamboyant) Anyway, my bathroom tiles are little black and white squares, and a white tub. I just bought a new vanity, medicine cabinet, and light bar, and I'm about to stain them in a dark cherry type finish...as well as the frame of the window in there.

Any ideas on color? Someone had an idea of like a wine color, but I have very limited taste, so I'm open. The shower curtain is white, but I can obviously buy something different. Simplicity is key though because I don't want to go buy a bunch of pictures or little things to hang everywhere...or at least I prefer not to.

Thank you in advance for the advice

I have dozens of framed paintings, photos, etc. that have been stored in closets. I usually don't like to have too much stuff on the walls. But I like them all and I want to display them in a unique way. Any ideas??

Sanded, stained, and sealed
I have about a 200 square foot square room.
I am an above average do-it-yourselfer, but if I could afford it I would love to pay someone to do it.

We bought a turn of the century three bedroom two bath dutch colonial in April. We are having a baby and plan to stay here at least through the next one or two, and hope to improve the value of our home by upgrading while keeping to the style of the original house. We have currently added new flooring, paint, and carpeting and are looking to eventually remodel both bathrooms, complete the unfinished basement, upgrade the electric (the bedrooms, living, and dining room have "knob and tube" wiring), and complete the stonework porch that was left unfinished in our backyard. What is the best way to finance these projects over time? Would it be better to save up gradually or get a home equite loan to finance the projects?

I am restoring an old hotel circa late 1800-early 1900 near the Oregon/Nevada border and would like as much information on building materials, interior floor and wall coverings and furnishings,or historical data that I can find to make my project successful. All help would be appreciated for online or direct resources for my research. Also information about superior businesses in the time period or specific to my hotel. It was named the Whitehorse Inn and next door is the Orevada Hotel. The whitehorse was a saloon and brothel in its day, so I have been told. The old town needs development and I would like to build some surrounding businesses there unique to the timeperiod as well. Thanks for all your help, whoever might answer my question. Happy New Year.

I have a demitese set of 6 little spoons and 6 little forks with a rose pattern on the handle. The name on the back is Marthon I think. Then it has what looks like a horse shoe on top of a star pattern. It was tarnished and I cleaned it with silver polish. Is this set silver or stainless steel?

my desk is just light wood and my comforter is navyblue, but i'm getting a gold comforter. I like deep rich colors, like dark red and dark purple, and I think purple and gold go really well together. I am sort of preppy, but I do not like pastel pinks, blues, greens, or yellows. I love neon colors but i don't want anything too wild.
