I'm about to tear apart my bathroom and I need color ideas. I'm 26 and single, (so keep that in mind-nothing flamboyant) Anyway, my bathroom tiles are little black and white squares, and a white tub. I just bought a new vanity, medicine cabinet, and light bar, and I'm about to stain them in a dark cherry type finish...as well as the frame of the window in there.

Any ideas on color? Someone had an idea of like a wine color, but I have very limited taste, so I'm open. The shower curtain is white, but I can obviously buy something different. Simplicity is key though because I don't want to go buy a bunch of pictures or little things to hang everywhere...or at least I prefer not to.

Thank you in advance for the advice

Also, the rest of my house is done in verying types of green. I don't know what color, the hall is, but it's lighter than my kitchen and that's close to a forest green.

A wine color sounds perfect...or...any dark rich color like navy blue, forest green, a dark khaki...all of these would complement the dark cherry finish.

As another individual suggested, I am not sure I'd stain the pieces in a dark cherry. It may be too dark and heavy if the bathroom is small.

I think shades of tan or taupe would look good with the black and white. If you do stain the cabinets cherry, make sure your accent color goes with the finish. Grab a handful of paint chips in colors you like and try them against the finish.

Change out that white shower curtain. You'd be surprised how sharp a black shower curtain would look with those little black and white tiles! This may not work with the cherry finish though. You'd have to experiment with paint chips.

A combination of taupe/tan towels and snowy white ones would look super.

You're right about the pictures and little things. Instead, go for a few handsome pieces in black wrought iron (a wall grille, candle sconce, shelf, etc.) You could probably find towel bars in this finish as well. Silver or brushed nickel would look good, too

Go for a clean, simple but sophisticated look. Personally, I don't think you could beat a combo of black, white, and taupe, but that's just my opinion.

The black and white tiles and the cherry finish sound nice and upscale, if you're just talking about paint I'd frankly use white, maybe a warm white with just a hint of red to pull in the cabinets. White is simple and looks clean. I would never do a bathroom in a dark color as that will bring the walls in and make it feel smaller. If it's a very large bathroom with lots of natural light you could consider dark, but otherwise I wouldn't.
You could also consider doing one wall a different color. This would usually be the focal wall with the mirror, but it would depend on the layout of the bathroom. This might be a way to bring in the wine color if you wanted to use that.

Sage green is a lighter color and would go with a lot of things, especially the white shower curtain and the dark cherry finish on the wood, and it is NOT a "girly" color either. Earth tones would be ok too,but just that hint of color would be a good choice I think. I am considering painting my own bathroom sage is why I suggested it.

Depending on the size of your bathroom, I suggest you not paint the cabinet in a cherry. In a small bathroom dark colors make the bathroom smaller. I find that soft colors such as lime green, lilac, peach work wonders. My bathroom walls are off white, I have lilac shower and window curtains, accented with green accessories. The cabinet is a very light oak.

I am a big fan of subtlety for that reason I will recommend very pale shades of any color you like. Dark colors make rooms appear smaller. The subtle and gentle pastels scream class and good taste the tangerine dream with turquoise toilet seat my Grandma Had in her trailer just never did it for me... Ya Know?

Your floor gives you a neutral color to work with. Light yellow, light blue, light peach. Teal blue shades would look great too. Really, your options are wide open with that type of floor.
