Feng shui (pronounced "fung shway") is the ancient Chinese practice of placement and arrangement of space to achieve harmony with the environment. The literal translation is "wind and water".
Feng shui is a discrete Chinese belief system involving a mix of geographical, religious, philosophical, mathematical, aesthetic, and astrological ideas.[1] It literally means "wind (feng) and water (shui)", and is not simply a decorating style, but a discipline with guidelines compatible with many different decorating styles.
For a place to have "good feng shui" is for it to be in harmony with nature, and to have "bad feng shui" is to be incongruous with nature.

For thousands of years, the Chinese have turned to the principles of Feng Shui (fung-shway) to create harmonious environments at home and at work. Its practioners believe they can alter environmental energies, called ch'i (chee) so these energies flow through the home or office like a gentle breeze, or a raging river, whichever is needed.
Many feng shui "cures" are easy, inexpensive, and based on common sense.
Such as using a wind chime to counteract street noise. Since outside noises can be distracting at both a conscious and a subconscious level, hanging a wind chime between your home and the source or the noise can create soothing harmonies.
You can also hang a small mirror above your stove to attract prosperity, since the stove is a source of nourishment and wealth, the mirror will double the stove's energy and power.
Let's see, the stove, turn on on the burners for a few minutes every day, even if you're not cooking, this generates ch'i and wealth. And... it works in reverse, if the stove is broken, even a burner, you are zapping away your ch'i ... and wealth.
The front door, helpful, 'good' energy enters here and circulates through your home, so it should be easily accessable, seen easily and the path should not be blocked by bushes, or clutter. The front door should also be painted a bright color to attract prosperity. Red, purple, orange or yellow are good colors to attract money.
Windows should be clean so as not to block energy, important for health.
Feng shui can also be used for arranging furniture. Position you bed so that when you are lying in it, you can easily see the door. This makes you more comfortable and you'll sleep better.
If you are single, and want a mate, you need a double, not a single bed, and a night stand on EACH side of the bed.
Helpful ch'i can flow right down the drain, taking your prosperity with it if you have leaky faucets or toilets.
Interior lights symbolize the life giving energy of the sun and are rejuvenating. Low lighting conserves energy, but less light also limits your homes positive energy.
If you want to start some feng shui, start small, as the more you study, the more overwhelming it can be.
For example, bedrooms on the south side of a house need different things than bedrooms on the west. Rooms without windows and no natural light are not good, but we're not about to tear down the house and rebuild, just to have the bathroom on an exterior wall. There are, however, things you can add to make up for what you lack.

Feng Shui is chinese equivalent of Indian "Vaastu"
Vaastu and feng shui are similar, where you design your house in such a way that it's most beneficial. The locations of windows, water bodies, directions of doors etc. are specified by Vaastu. Feng Shui is supposed to get you good luck.

fengshui was made by ancient chinese to optimize yield in their farms. later, this is made to win wars/ battles in their military.
fengshui is not about intuition; it is not as easy as reading a book, changing the color of your bedroom, and voila! you got a perfect life! if that were the case, then we all have perfect lives!
fengshui is a compilation of concepts and configurations/ formulas. if you get a luo pan, or the compass that fengshui practitioner uses, you will see that the small compass in the middle is surrounded by several circles. each of these circle is a concept/ formula, and the chinese characters are the codes representing degrees/ directions.
fengshui is about knowing where the good chi is and facing that direction to get it. in most cases, the main door faces the direction of the good chi.
fengshui is about configurations and systems, each has its own calculations.
no 1 book nor website out there publishes the concepts of fengshui. the cheapest way to audit your space is to hire a fengshui master/ auditor.
if you want to learn, look for a master who is willing to teach you.
fengshui cannot make you rich overnight. but fengshui can enhance your life over time.
fengshui depends on space. the bigger your space, the more chi it manages - meaning it is useless to apply fengshui just to your bedroom.
fengshui also has a time element. thus, a house might be lucky at some point, but after 20 years, it is not anymore. but when a new owner live in the same house, it can be lucky again.
to say that fengshui is about furniture arrangement is missing the true idea of fengshui, because you can do much more than that. you can attract more money by putting your stove in the right location and facing it in the right direction. you can have more friends or clients by just putting green plants in certain areas. or have wealth in general by having water dragons, which is basically a canal of clean water flowing in specific direction.
the most important thing you can do is change the direction of your main door to a degree that has a better chi.

feng shui is what the chineese do to their rooms/houses to bring "good luck". each arrangement of furniture brings a different type of good luck, e.g.: arranging three family photos in a triangle helps you get along with your family, placing your desk to the left of the doorway helps you study well, put a quartz on your desk, etc.
feng shui also includes the wall color of the room. feng shui can vary depending on the person who writes on it, and the place you live in, etc.

It is a state of coexistence between human being and its environment.
They say, you should adjust you everyday life, especially the ones which are not dynamic (like your house), to the environment around you so that you could have a better life quality.
