We bought a house and moved in past October. I gave my wife total responsibility for decorating and other additional stuff, I put down tile, we paid for painters, she's made curtains, etc, etc. Some of the stuff I don't particularly care for, but I've went along with because its important to her. I really only want two things for the house: a bigger deck and a big screen TV. Not allowed. 100 excuses are given why not, even after she's picked out 98% of what's in the house. Am I wrong to feel this is selfish and inflexible? I haven't seen anything to feel a compromise is even possible. Ideas on how to approach this? Why does it seem like things are one way...HER way?

I added a new concrete slab on my back portch area. The contractor splattered concrete on my window and screen and did not clean it away while it was wet. Now I'm stuck with removing this dried mess. By the way....the contractor has been out on leave for a few weeks and won't return until August. He has not been paid any money for the work he has done so far. The splattered concrete is bugging me. ....afterall, it's an ugly mess. .

We own a 1920s bungalow that has mostly all original wood trim on the inside. And, it seems like nowadays everyone paints over their wood white--does this increase the re-sale by painting the wood white?

The apartment is a one bedroom with a living room. The kitchen area is so small that the fridge is in the dining area. I can paint the walls, but only light colors. Also, I can share pictures if you're as intrigued as I.

Should we spend the extra money and just get hardwood, or is pergo a good choice? We're having our 1st home built and need to save money, but want a few nice upgrades. Are either of these options worth it or should we just stick to tile and carpet??

We are looking at buying a house, but would need to alter the staircase. Currently, it is straight with a steep pitch, so we would want to make it half straight, then the other half a landing perpendicular.

I only have 8' celing with a ceiling fan. I would love to get a canopy bed but most are 81" or taller. I measured and it doesn't leave much clearance between the fan and the top of the canopy rails and am afraid the bed will look to big. Has anyone put a canopy bed in a bedroom with 8' ceilings and/or have photos they don't mind sharing?

it's been a "figure it out as we go" kind of thing since i moved in.
(ie. hanging more stuff & just moving things around as time passed)

and i was planning on painting my room after i realized how generically juvenile it looked with outdated posters and teenage pile-on accessories.

i don't wanna have to hang everything back up and put all my stuff back on the shelves with the same old cluttery look.

what can i do, besides paint, to feel like i've really made a positive change to the walls and the atmosphere?

Our home is designed to be a modern home style. There's a lot of glasses. The theme of our home is glass, white, and chrome. All door knobs and handles will be chrome, there will be lots of windows and white tile floor .. etc. Our architecture chose our tile for the stairs with glass railing. Tile stairs is kind of costly for us. My question is that are there any other material that I can substitute to get the same look as tile stairs?
