I need the rug too soon to order it online and instead need to find the item in a local store. Does anyone know where that sort of mat is sold?

Wal-Mart and Home Depot have a padded indoor outdoor rug with roads and a town to drive through.
call your local store before going

I don't know about in the USA but here in Australia I bought one many years ago for my son in a carpet store, I have since seen them in furniture stores that have children's furniture.
Rather than walking through a dozen stores to find it just do a search of your local yeallow pages and and give them a call.

Just about any department store. I know for a fact that Home Depot has them
