I'm moving into a room with a dark blue rug and I want to paint the walls. It's pretty much a straight dark blue with no other hints of color. It's a dining room being converted into a bedroom, so it's about twice the size of a normal bedroom. I'm male and my furniture and wall hangings are of an old european theme (dark wood, tapestries, old maps etc.). I want to convey a masculine, yet warm and inviting feel to the room. Since the carpet color doesn't afford me many painting options, I wanted to see what you thought.
I have a color in mind, but I wanted to see what other people thought because perhaps there is something I haven't thought of myself. Thanks for your input.

So, I just started dating this guy who does remodeling sorts of stuff. His hands are very rough, but it really bothers me that they are DIRTY. I mean, sure he washes them, but there's still black gunk under the fingernails. Now, I don't have a problem looking at them, but the thought of these hands inside of me is gross and makes me worry about infection!! I tried to tell him nicely to clean up his hands and he told me that they are "stained." Now I know that some crud is hard to get off, but that's not stains, that's dirt and glue and god knows what. I don't do nearly as much dirty work as he does, but when I do, I tend to wear gloves and then I clean my hands thoroughly afterwards. He tried to scrub them off better, but really I think he need to keep them cleaner to begin with and use the right solvents. Am I being unreasonable? Do any women out there feel the same? Have you guys gotten this request from other women? How can I get teach him to keep his hands clean?

I would like to paint a large world map onto one of the walls in my boys bedroom, I really believe that kids should know about other countries and where they are etc, plus my kids are really interested in this.
Does anyone know where I can get a large worldmap stencil or any other ideas on how to get the map on the wall reasonably accurately? Any other suggestions on further brightening up the room with a 'world' theme would be appreciated - it is a very large room which both my boys share.

I'm redecorating my bedroom. I was wondering if anyone had any feng shui tips at all? Even simple things like placing a cloth over your computer monitor at night. Anything, from furniture placements to colour to integrating a work environment (computer and desk area) into the bedroom. I don't need to read comments about feng shui being bull, design to my own liking, etc. (inevitably, i will be.)

thanks!

My husband and I have a great opportunity to buy an older fixer-upper home - this will be our fiorst home together!!! The foundation and the basics are in good shape. However, we will need to remodel and redecorate alot of the home- I want to know where we should spend alot of money (ie:Kitchen, Bedroom, etc.) We're hoping we can make good profit off this house in a couple years.

If we were to sell this home in a couple years, what would you look for?
As a buyer, Is the kitchen important? Bathroom ??? Etc. And if so, what features do you look for???
Thank you for your answers!!! :) Look forward to hearing them

Next door's water feature was bad enough, a-bubblin' and a-grubblin', all night. Now they've added a dozen solar powered plastic flower lamps lighting up me bedroom. Do we want Disneyland taking over the English country garden?

I have to paint a room. It has a few holes from screws I want to cover before I paint. What do I need for that?

Also, do I have to use Primer or do I just start painting away?

Any recommendations regarding brand or type of paint?

Thanks so much!

Hi! I'm converting my super ugly garage into a home gym. I found these mats (getting the ones without the border). http://www.interlockingfloormat.com/tatami_interlocking_mats.htm

I have shelves that I'd like to cover w/ fabric or something. I want something somewhat Japanese or asian, or something generally calming, but that brings in other colors. I'm considering bamboo blinds, but I can't find any that are 84" long yet (super long shelves). Any ideas?? I also need pain color ideas.

I am using a wood screw but for some reason it will not drill tight. Is there another type of screw that would work better or is there something I could do or add to make it work right? I am trying to build a bed for my daughter which is something I have never done before but I had an idea and decided to tackle the project myself. I just keep running into the issue of the screws being too loose. Any ideas would be great! Thanks!
