Well, first you need to check your local building code for specifications. Your spindles will probably need to be spaced 3" or 4" apart. Depending upon the style and material of the spindles you select, you could pay up to $20 each. Newell posts will be considerably more. You'll also need the handrail. Curved handrail will set you back more. Based on your photo, you also need to decide if you're having wooden treads and risers, or carpet.

If you're going to have the parts handmade, count on a substantially higher price. Then, you'll need to consider the labor to install. Depending upon where you live, count on at least $50 per hour. If your carpenter just has to install the parts, count on at least a week; if he has to finish (stain, paint or urethane) the parts, count on at least two weeks.

It looks like it could be a very stunning staircase, but it won't come cheaply!
