I bought some books at a yard sale for my little boy, rare books that I couldn't pass up. But I don't want him to touch them until I get them cleaned up. Seems like I read in a magazine years ago about putting them in a microwave, anyone heard of this? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I bought a big HUGE tub of Country Crock butter and accidnenlt dropped it a second ago. Well, the bottom of it cracked open and some butter is pooping out the bottom. i frefuse to throw the whole thing away since it is preactically brand new...but it is not going to hold the butter in on the bottom anymore. What can I put the butter in? Or should I try to patch the bottom of the tub somehow? Will my butter keep in a different container- is that a crazy question???

I moved into an apartment and am on my own. How often should I pull my refrigerator and stove from the wall and clean behind and under it? Is once a year okay? Do I just vacuum or should I also use soap & water on the back coils and other metal parts? Do you have to clean behind your dishwasher also?

Also, while I'm asking - there is a 2 inch stain in my tiolet and I've scrubbed like crazy but it's still there. Can I use bleach in an off-white tiolet bowl? It actually looks like a thin line of rust.

Thanks for your advice!

There are two machines required to wash clothes. One machine to wash the clothes and the other to dry the clothes. SO if thats the case, why isn't there two machines for dishes- one to wash the dishes and the other to dry the dishes. It just makes no sense.? WHY?

My wife left a half-gallon container of fresh apple cider in the backseat of her SUV. The bottle subsequently fermented and burst --- apparently several days later. The liquid soaked into the carpet in the cargo area and the smell now permeates the entire vehicle. We've had the interior professionally cleaned, shampooed etc. without any improvement in the smell. Any ideas, suggestions, reccomendations short of getting rid of the vehicle ?? Is this a smell that eventually just "goes away" ? Or are there any combinations of ?? peroxide, baking soda etc. that may work ??

Is there any tips?
Many thanks!

The carpet cleaning guy told me the carpet would dry within 4 to 6 hours of cleaning it. We left the house and turned the heater up full blast for 7 hours and when we got back it wasn't dry yet. That was 48 hours ago and the carpet is still damp and the smell is nauseating. Why is it still wet, and more importantly, how can we get it dried out???? Thanks in advance!!

I recently moved into an apartment, and the drain in my kitchen sink smells. I remember hearing once that putting something down the drain and running the garbage disposal helps the smell go away, but I can't think of what that something is. I'd be very thankful if anyone can help me clear out this smell before it gets worse.
