Yes A Sharpie Will Come Off Clothing! To remove any permanent marker from clothing I use Tea Tree Oil solution called Sol-U-Mel from a company named Melaleuca, Inc., located in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Dab some undiluted Sol-U-Mel on the spot and treat with the Melaleuca clothing spot remover, Pre-spot and it should wash right out. You can also add a cap full of Sol-U-Mel to the washer--I also use their laundry soap 5.99 for 32 ounces that does 32 loads with no fillers or skin irritants added. The Laundry soap called MelaPower also contains tea tree oil and even though it is an oil, it is also a natural solvent. I have used it to remove silly putty that was ground in and dried in carpet (left for days--friend's house) as well as taking permanent markers off her curtains and walls. (great kids! artistic bunch!)
Anyhow, because of the solvent nature of the oil, it does not leave oil or greasy stains. You can purchase these items and other safer natural non-toxic products at www.Melaleuca.com for wholesale prices. I will tell you more (too long to write) if you send me an e-mail.
Good Luck and Be Well.
Life is full of SOLUTIONS, not problems.

You might be able to get it to fade by letting a stain romover sit on it for a while before you wash your jeans. You might have to scrape it it with your fingernails or something like a old toothbrush to help fade the marks. You also should not dry your jeans in the dryer until you are happier with the mark. The heat from the dryer will set the marker into the fabric. It might take several washes before it fades enough not to stand out. It might not ever come out completely....but at least it will get better!

I doubt it will come all out but might lighten enough that over time and washing it lightens more.......
rub area with fingernail polish remover or straight lacquer thinner.
make up a mix of oxi clean but instead of in water, make it a paste and smear it on the writing, let sit then wash in washer.
if the jeans have been washed and dried in a dryer...then its set in even more permanent than if it was fresh. a dryer will set most stains for life.

If these are jeans worth saving try this. It's work, but I salvaged plenty of teenager's expensive jeans this way.
Lacquer thinner. A good idea to do it outside or a well vented area. Highly flamable!
Get a quart can of lacquer thinner, heavy duty gloves and some absorbant rags (old cotton socks or tee shirts)
Place a thick rag on the back side of stain. I used some old socks and poured the thinner onto one of them and started blotting the pen mark. Keep the rag clean but turning as the ink comes out. Reapply the thinner to clean rags. check the back side rag, too if it needs to be replaced. You don't want the ink reapplying itself that is the reason for the clean rags/socks.
Take all the used rags out in a plastic trash bag and dispose.
When it's clean, pour liquid detergent on the area and let it soak. Lacquer thinner smells and takes a good scrubbing to remove the odor.

I used deep wodds off to get black permanent marker out of material. Won't hurt to try it on your jeans. If that fails buy some black dye and dye your jeans black.

Try getting it out with rubbing alcohol or paint thinner or acetone. Some people have tried to remove such stains with gasoline, but the smell stays in the clothes for a long time.

Pre treat the stain with hairspray and let it soak, then scrub the stain gently with an old toothbrush. It might take several treatments.

Sadly, no, it is permanent. Don't you just hate that, I bet they were your favorite ones, too!
