My wife left a half-gallon container of fresh apple cider in the backseat of her SUV. The bottle subsequently fermented and burst --- apparently several days later. The liquid soaked into the carpet in the cargo area and the smell now permeates the entire vehicle. We've had the interior professionally cleaned, shampooed etc. without any improvement in the smell. Any ideas, suggestions, reccomendations short of getting rid of the vehicle ?? Is this a smell that eventually just "goes away" ? Or are there any combinations of ?? peroxide, baking soda etc. that may work ??

Thanks for reminding me to trash my old cider.

Try Odo_Ban from Wal-Mart.It cleans, disinfects and smells wonderful. It is right by the fabric refreshers .

This is exactly what you do: For a half gallon of organic apple cider, pitch 4 ounces of yeast into the cider, then stir it rapidly for about 5 seconds. Make sure the cider is in a container that you will be bale to place an air lock on. Let this sit for about 1 week or until the air lock stops bubbling. After this, if you really want to get into it and make your, now hard, apple cider carbonated, ad about 3 tablespoons of corn sugar to the batch and bottle it all up. Let it sit for a couple of weeks. THen enjoy. The bottling is not necessary though.

I'm pretty sure that this will work for you. Charcoal absorbs orders, put some charcoal in a bucket and leave it in your car , I mean suv for a day or two, maybe a couple of buckets, your odor will be gone.
