I have a ton of crocheted doillies, like all grandmothers had back in the 40's and 50's.Some are star shaped, others are round, but they all have a (fringe) of sorts. This (fringe) is much larger than the center design. I know you need a liquid starch and a large enough space to pin down the doillie. But I don't have a clue exactly how it is done, or how you get the (fringe) to a pleasing shape. I have seen how some (fringe) are like rolling waves. How do you pin a doillie to achieve a shape that looks good and shows off the detail of the crocheted pattern? I need serious help since I would like keep some of the prettier doillies my Mother kept of her mothers.

When my roommates cook, the smell of the food seems to linger in our kitchen for DAYS! It kind of irritates me because the smells are so pungant and strong. I've tried febreze, lysol (sp?), burning candels, and leaving all the windows open. Nothing seems to get rid of the smells. Can you maybe help me? Thanks.

My dog in the past has urinated in one of our rooms in our house. The carpet is thick and plush. I have tried sprays, powders and baking soda but they only rid the odor for a short time. Is there anything I can try short of calling a professional carpet cleaner that will permently rid of the odor?

My house is always a mess, no matter how much I seem to clean it. I live alone, in a 2 bed one bath apartment with no pets. What is your best advice on how to keep a place clean? (Or at least not a complete 100% disaster 24/7)

I often use my blankets and such to wipe up massive food spills. The other day I microwaved some cheese, but I heated it up so much that it was more of a liquid than solid. The plate was very hot from being overheated; so, I dropped it when I picked it up, and it spilled. I used my quilt which my mother sewed for me to wipe up this spill.

My mother made the quilt for me a few years ago, but I am worried that the cheese stain will not come out so well because cheese is somewhat oily; are there are any good detergents, suggestions, or such to get this stain out? I can't use anything which would harm the delicate fabric or the detailed needlework.

I am considering getting a soapstone sink for my kitchen. I found one that I really like but met a woman yesterday that has a soapstone sink and it was in rough shape. She claims that she has tried every mild cleaner and nothing works. Is this common and does soapstone require any special care?

I need to clean a spot of urine from our oriental rug (from Dubai). It may have been a day old when I discovered it. I soaked up as much as I could with a paper towel but it has left a slight stain.

I've been told it's a mixture of alcohol and water. I've also been told that is how hospitals sterilize their rooms. Now, I usually clean with bleach. Which is best?

My lanlord recently replaced my upstairs toilet and in doing so got a lot of the sealing wax all over the bottom portion of the toilet that looks disgusting. Can anyone give me any advice on how to remove it so my toilet doesn't look like I haven't cleaned it in years? Thanks
