Get the enzyme solution from Petco that was recommended by someone else--- you must saturate the carpet completely in the area of the smell ( the solution must reach all the areas that were affected with urine)
Now get a plastic trash bag and put it on top of the area and put some books on top to hold it in place.
Leave it for 24 hours.
Take off the books and the plastic and let the area dry out.
See if the smell has gone if not repeat.
The enzyme solution won't work if it dries out too quickly, the plastic keeps the area moist until the enzymes can work

Your problem is that the urine has soaked down - and spread - into the carpet pad underneath. I've tried the Urine Gone spray and OxyClean with no luck. Call a carpet cleaner and ask how they'll get the pad clean - and if they can do it, go for it! Otherwise you'll have to pull up the carpet and underpad and start over :-(

Boy, i hear you on this one... we have a puppy....same deal.
I tried everything....and I mean everything you could buy at Petco, but in the end, the only thing that could get the pee smell out was a good steam cleaning from the carpet cleaning people.
Good luck with that....

a carpet cleaning professional will drench the area, add urine and sanitiser to the machine and rinse it out. doesn't take long at all. You can do it yourself but most shop rentals do not have high enough psi(suction) to remove the water correctly. best option is to use a pro

Give Freshana a try. Totally organic but works on everything. It's amazing stuff to get rid of any type of pet urine.
This is what Sandy had to say about it. "Freshana works amazingly well... I have 2 little "house-mutts" , and am always concerned about pet odors. Now be warned-- this is a true but disgusting story: several weeks ago one of my dogs did a "sneaky poop" that I found. After disposing the poop into a plastic bag, I decided " just for fun" to spray Freshana inside the poopy bag to see how it affected the odor-- OMG, I couldn't smell the poop!! That's when I knew Freshana was the real deal..."

oxy-clean will work . but you need to saturate the area to the point of drenched , let set a minute or two then suck dry with a good powerful shop vac. make sure you take your time with the vaccum so as to get as much of the moisture out of the pad under the carpet as possible. then set a fan by the area and turn on hi to finish drying

My dog did the same thing. I put baby powder all over the floor and just swept it out. Took the smell right out.

You do not need to buy anything expensive, but you may need to be persistent. The ingredients you need are baking soda, vinegar, dish washing liquid, and hydrogen peroxide. This will work on both the stain and the odor. Many people swear by various commercial products and you could buy something from a pet store or from a vet, but this recipe will work just as well and won't cost as much. Check the padding underneath if you can, as the smell may actually be in the padding.
Best of luck with it. I hope this helps.
