I have a Kenmore system for 20 years. Never had a problem. Installed it myself. Power head too. We have two dogs. But no sign of them on the furniture, carpeting, or floors.

Nutone makes several systems. Quite affordable. About the same as an Electrolux canister vac. But quieter and more powerful.

Best thing about a central system is that you only empty the container maybe twice a year. No bags to buy either. Much of the dust and odors are vented outside.
And you don't have to lug around a canister vac. Would never own an upright. Those are for people who don't clean corners.

I grew up in a house that had central vacuum installed in the late 50s. But we had a dishwasher and dryer back then too. My mother was a big advocate of central.

Honestly I would go with a Dyson. They are rather on the expensive side, but they do a lot more then regular vacuums. They pick up 10x what normal vacuums don't. They take away odors that are left behind by normal vacuums and it is also quite easy to empty and then move on. I have had regular vacuums for years and was never really happy. I friend let me use his Dyson for a few days. After that, I went out and paid the money for it because they really are that good.

I have had central vacuums in two of the several homes I have owned over the years and I can tell you that I would never have one installed in a new or used home...

I have a central vac I love it my wife wont use it. She doesnt think it picks up dirt good enough. If you do get one make sure you can use a power head on it ( they have to use 110volt power )
Make sure your hose needs to be long enough to get to all corners of the house and you need to put the motor in an area that wont be to loud.
Hope that helps

I had central vacs in the last two houses I lived in, and I HATED them. If you have never used them, I don't recommend them. But if you've used then and you've liked them, then never mind. ;0
