I often use my blankets and such to wipe up massive food spills. The other day I microwaved some cheese, but I heated it up so much that it was more of a liquid than solid. The plate was very hot from being overheated; so, I dropped it when I picked it up, and it spilled. I used my quilt which my mother sewed for me to wipe up this spill.

My mother made the quilt for me a few years ago, but I am worried that the cheese stain will not come out so well because cheese is somewhat oily; are there are any good detergents, suggestions, or such to get this stain out? I can't use anything which would harm the delicate fabric or the detailed needlework.

Oxyclean and very hot water!

First carefully - I'd use my own fingernails first so I could feel the fabric react- scrape as much dried cheese off as possible.

Once you have removed everything you can in a cold state- btw try freezing the item since it is small to help break off the cheese.

Heat water in a teapot if your hot water from the tap isn't VERY hot and follow the directions on the package- make a paste let it set and wash by hand after and repeat until clean.

Because of the meaning of the item and it's deleicate fabric don't use a washing machine.

Please put towels in your kitchen- even bath towels smaller ones draped over a cabinet door near the microwave- fridge- and stove. will keep you from grabbing something not sturdy to clean up a mess. I did this for my kids and it saved my floors and their sleeves from many a stain so far!
