I'd like to set up video surveilance and use an old pc as a server for the equipment. If possible I'd also like to have the information uploaded somewhere online at certain intervals (since if the surveilance equipment is found and stolen it's of no use)

Also looking for other nice security measures such as motion lights, dog, etc...

Suggestions for equipment and lighting and anything else not mentioned is appreciated.

The property will be surrounded by bamboo, an electric fence with a charger used for cattle since I'm on a farm.

I plan on having all the doors on the house open outwards so it's harder to kick them in.

Doors will have deadbolt locks.

Anyone have experience with setting up their own home security?

I love security :]

i usually turn my ac thermostat up to 80 degrees when i go to work and then turn it back down to 70ish when i get home. is it better (cost wise - energy efficient) to do it this way or does it take more energy to cool back down than if i would leave it around the same temperature all day?

My wall color is called "Rainwashed" by Sherman Williams, which is on the blue color scheme although also blending into a very pae green. You can check it out on their color visualizer if you'd like: http://www.sherwin-williams.com/do_it_yourself/
THE QUESTION???? The headboard is kind of high, but there is still alot of space above it. Do you think I should decorate above the headboard, i.e.artwork or leave the space empty. I've been asking myself that question for a year now so I really would like some input. Thanks.

I spilled water on a plug socket and shorted the fuse for the whole room. Despite unscrewing the socket and leaving it for more than two weeks to dry, I am still unable to flick the fuse back on to restore power. Does this mean I need to replace the fuse and how do I go about this? Or is it time to get an electrician in?

I placed an order for couch/love seat and in turn canceled the order due to finding a better product at another store. I purchased through the free financing which is done through Citi Financial. The store manager told me that because this order was in route, I had to pay a 20% restocking fee or do a store credit. Obviously I will not pay the store 20% of a product I canceled. He then told me I had to use the store credit within 60 days, which is not an option as I do not need any further furniture, especially within 2 months. As a side note, their store credit is for full amount of purchase, which for me included a warranty on the furniture, delivery charge, as well as sales tax (not just the merchandise).
I called Citi Financial to insure I will not be billed for this order as it was canceled. They stated my account did show a authorization for the amount, but it was at a $0 balance as they charge will not go through until the furniture was sent. I canceled the the account all together so no charges can be made, and they stated they would send me a letter noting account was closed.
The back of the order form states "Risk Free Buying" - I don't buy that at all. This is more like strong-arm tactics.
Has anyone else ever had this experience with this company, and if so, how did you handle it? I worry that they will come back on me for this canceled order, or place the charge on a canceled account.

i took apart my bathroom sink pipes to find out why i had slow drainage. i pulled out what looked like the skin and internal remains of a black snake!! how can this be? i have a double sink set up with a T pipe so the hole is not big enought to allow this size snake, about 12 to 14 inches long. has anyone else had this problem? this happened to me once before in a brand new home i purchased in Florida a couple of years ago.

Scary!!

I had a new furnace put in in November of last year. Over the past week or so, I have noticed that the water line running to the vent is on every time I walk past it, and there is a lot of condensation on the outside of it. I can also hear it running through the vents upstairs every time I listen. It is spraying whether the furnace is running or not. I have my A/C turned on.

Is this a problem? If so, do I need to call the person that put it in, or is there something I can do.

I never trusted people who say they clean with vinegar. I tried it on my carpet and it amazingly removed a high traffic stain.
Can I use it in a carpet cleaner ? Carpet washer ?

I have a big clump of black eyed susans (the common kind bought at Wal-mart garden centre) that bloomed for a couple of years. However, the past two years they have gone directly to seed without blooming. They just get tall spikes covered in seed, no flowers or buds at all. Why is this, and is there anything I can do to get them to bloom?

Okay, I went in to the kitchen about 4:00 this morning as I couldn't sleep (as usual) I thought that I would straighten the cabinet as it really wouldn't take liong and I am tired of not being able to find anything. So I began cleaning the first shelf by taking everything out. THAT's when I saw them. Several little bugs, some dead some still crawling. They were small slow-moving bugs that looked a lot like fleas. They just didn't hop. So I got 409 and went work cleaning and moved up to the next shelf and had the same problem. When I got to the third shelf, I saw that the flour was out of the bag and all over the cabinet and the bugs were crawling all through. So yeah, I totally freaked then. I cleaned all the flour up and washed the whole shelf with bleach. I am a pretty clean person and am totally freaked out about having bugs in my kitchen of any kind. Were they weevils? And what do I do next. I want them so gone!!! Please help.
