Although it may be dried out by now, there has been arcing inside the socket, which will continue. (smell it up close !) The only solution is to replace the socket outlet, then the MCB will reset.

When U spilled the water on the socket did the whole house electrics shut down or just the ring mains = plug sockets.
How old is ur house and electrics, in the fuse box is there a board of small switches if so then chances are if the whole houses electrics shut down u May have an rcd fitted which is an earth leakage circuit breaker. If so its because of that ur electrics shut down because there must still be water in the socket. A cure would either be remove socket after first turning off the power, and then asking a relative or a good neighbour if u could use their power for a few mins to dry out the socket with a hair drier, or u could just for peace of mind replace the socket which shouldn't cost anymore than £5. u would also need to check that there is no water inside the box or wiring , Now apparently there is a new law out re electrics and gas making it an offence to tamper with them. However if ur competent enough to do it and its ur home then who's to know. I did exactly same as u, i dried it out and it worked fine, its the rcd that's pretty sensitive for ur safety. Good luck, please let me know if i have been of any help.

Sounds like you burned up the receptacle and that that receptacle is supplying power (in a radial manner) to your kitchen light. Replace the receptacle and check the wiring for burnt wire insulation when you do it. ---------- Remove the fuse first. God, why do I always forget that part? I'm just too used to working on live circuits. ----------- OK, so now you have a new receptacle and a new light switch but no power to either. You have to check the receptacle "before" the one you changed out in the chain. I don't have a wiring diagram of your house, so I don't know where it is, but it's usually the one to the right or left of it. The receptacle you replaced is drawing power from somewhere (well, technically, not right now) and that somewhere is probably another receptacle. You are basically at the end of a circuit chain and working your way back to the fuse box, one receptacle and switch box at a time. It isn't hard, but it is time consuming.

Is it a fuse, or should it be an MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker)?
If it is an MCB this might also be RCD protected.
If so have you tried resetting that first?
You'll know if is RCD protected because it has a test button next to the switch.
Also on the front of the box should be a notice which says something like "This installation is protected by a device which automatically switches off the supply......".

most people are afraid of electricity and do not like to preform this kinda work. the reason is because on most houses (around me) do not have a main disconnect to cut off power to the fuse box. the only way is to remove the meter from the base.
on the other hand if your like me you dont care if its alive or not. you disconnect all wires going into the fuse and you remove it and add the new one. they just snap in most of the time,

Sounds like something shorted out during your accident. I suggest getting an electrician to check it out. They are well trained and electricity can be very dangerous.

wet electrics, Scary, Have the circuit checked by a qualified electrical engineer.Better safe than sorry. I lost everything due to an electrical fire 20 years ago. Not insured so you can imagine the position i was in.
