I placed an order for couch/love seat and in turn canceled the order due to finding a better product at another store. I purchased through the free financing which is done through Citi Financial. The store manager told me that because this order was in route, I had to pay a 20% restocking fee or do a store credit. Obviously I will not pay the store 20% of a product I canceled. He then told me I had to use the store credit within 60 days, which is not an option as I do not need any further furniture, especially within 2 months. As a side note, their store credit is for full amount of purchase, which for me included a warranty on the furniture, delivery charge, as well as sales tax (not just the merchandise).
I called Citi Financial to insure I will not be billed for this order as it was canceled. They stated my account did show a authorization for the amount, but it was at a $0 balance as they charge will not go through until the furniture was sent. I canceled the the account all together so no charges can be made, and they stated they would send me a letter noting account was closed.
The back of the order form states "Risk Free Buying" - I don't buy that at all. This is more like strong-arm tactics.
Has anyone else ever had this experience with this company, and if so, how did you handle it? I worry that they will come back on me for this canceled order, or place the charge on a canceled account.

Depends on your States laws on purchases. Did you cancel within 3 days? This is usually the time frame you are allowed. You may get charged the restocking fee if not. If they push the billing, you will get a letter from a collection agency.

I cancelled an order within 2 hours in the state of Virginia at the Midlothian store. The sales guy told me that I had to put over $1500 on store credit. To be fair, I thought to myself, "Ok, I will buy a sofa & love seat since I need one anyways and I took so much of the sales man's time". I went back to the store five times and could not find a single piece of furniture that I wanted to buy. Finally, I settled on a bed that I didn't even need. The difference between the bed and my previous purchase (a mattress which I cancelled in less than 2 hours) was $27. I asked them to refund the $27 and they told me that I would need to buy something with that residual $27 store credit. We are talking about a measly $27. I called the manager, Brad, who said he woudld try to get the corporate office to issue a refund check for the $27. When I didn't hear back from him, I called him again. He said he would get back to me on Monday. It is Tuesday (haven't heard from him yet). Here I am buying a bed that I don't even need to be "fair" and they are giving me the run around over $27. They would rather put their reputation on the line and risk losing a repeat customer, not to mention all of the people I will tell about my negative experience over $27? No wonder the place is always empty. They cannot be trusted to do what is ethical and reasonable. Sounds like filing a complaint with the BBB may help some consumers in the future. BEWARE- It is not wise to do business with Ashley. I feel that I have been SCAMMED.

Hi,
I was in the same situation as you. I called Ashley store to cancel within 3 days. They said the order was canceled. Then a week later, they called me back and said I couldn't cancel and had to come to the store to reselect another furniture which is $5700 or above. What can I do now? I don't want to buy anything from them since they lied to me. I am financing through their credit card company. They haven't delivered anything to me yet.

I ended up going through the Better Business Bureau. Everything was resolved that way and I will not do business with them again ever nor recommend it. After running around with the company and dealing with a very rude woman who worked there, I told them I would file a complaint with BBB and it ended up being resolved in less than 3 days. Good luck!
