How is it leaking? Is water continually running into the bowl? If so, it is a simple adjustment on the fill-valve or ballcock. If it is broken, it will need to be replaced and this means removing the tank and installing a new one with tank gasket. This would be time consuming and probably cost more than installing a new American Standard Cadet toilet. Make sure what is broken before hiring someone to fix it.

Depends on what type of ball valve you have. If it has an adjustment screw at the end where the water comes in, you can adjust it yourself. The correct level is about an inch below the overflow. If it is the brasss type with a copper ball float, then it will need a new washer fitted which is about 20 minutes work.

Reckon on about £60, if it is what they call a bottom feed 'Torbeck' valve then a little more, be advised that half the answers you have are not accurate, or could at least be describing the wrong object, there are several types, and most people seem to assume you have the same type as they do.

all it is is the ball is coming up to high that stops the water.
if you look at the arm the ball is on they is a screew,
adjust this so the the ball can not come up any higher and it shuts the the water flow filling the loo up quicker.
