I am looking for a vacuum that is under $150 that is really good on hardwood floors and pet hair. I have a few area rugs, but mostly hardwood floors. Can any of you recommend a really good one? My vacuum was a Dirt Devil, which wasn't that great to begin with. But it finally died today. I think the cat hair was too much for it. I recently got a cat and he sheds like crazy, so I need one that's really good with pet hair as well. Thanks.

I'm out of toilet cleaner and all I have left in the house are very mild cleaners. My toilet needs cleaning and I'm kinda broke. What can I use to clean the toilet? Can I use hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol or vinegar? Do any of them kill germs?

...to use to get in between all the crevices? It's cheap vinyl with a parquet design stamped into it. I usually use S pic n' Span but it's not strong enough to get all the crud out. I got on the floor and tried getting it with Windex and paper towels but that wasn't good enough either. It's a big floor. Thanks for your advice!

On the second floor of my house, picture a U-shaped area in the master bath... there's a fiberglass tub/shower on the left, a toilet on the back wall and an exterior wall on the right hand side. There are water marks on the wooden baseboards on the right hand side (of the exterior wall). The distance from the tub is just a couple of feet (just enough room to allow for the toilet).
There doesn't seem to be any water damage on the baseboard trim behind the toilet but the vinyl flooring is pulling up and away from the baseboards on all three sides. I recently replaced the toilet and I've checked the inlets and the tank where it's attached to the bowl; there's no leaking there.

Did I make a mistake when I placed the toilet on the wax ring, maybe? Could it be excess water from the shower, splashing over the side of the tub and leeching it's way across the space? Except for the edges where the vinyl is pulling up, the rest of the floor is really tight and secure. What's going wrong?

About once ever few days, every one of our smoke alarms goes off. Its not just chirping like when the batteries are no good, its full on beeping. There is absolutely no smoke, and we changed all the batteries. What causes this?

I live in Wisconsin and in the winter I have problems with water in my garage. It is a detatched 2 1/2 car garage. The floor wasn't "poured" correctly and there isn't any slope to allow water to run out. I have problems with the snow melting off the undercarriages of our cars and then large pools of water building up. I squeege the garage, but I am worried that the water could cause damage. Should I seal the floor or paint it?

When I was pregnant one of my co-workers made me a baby quilt that is fleece fabric and is tied at the ends.

I absolutly love this blanket and wanted to make her one that is for a girl (hers is blue and for a boy) So my question is how do you make them?

I have never made a blanket before so I need lots of help. I think I described it to the best of my ability.

I have an older home, and some of the walls are lath and plaster.
When I removed some curtain rods from the walls it left some pretty good size cracks in the plaster--the lath is visible through the cracks. Is it a do-able job for a novice?

I am thinking of buying a new washer and dryer. First time buyer, and have no idea what to do.
I am looking for something in $1500 range (for both). Need suggestions on any brands, warranties, front load vs old fashion, electricity and water efficient, where to buy-- discounts and rebates are always a plus.

Or just tell me what you have, and if you like it or not. Thank you a bunch!

I have a Whirlpool refridgerator with the freezer on top....and just recently, my fridge part doesn't cool like it should, but my freeezer part is fine, although it doesn't switch off anymore..it'll keep running.....I see some rost developing in the freezer area which it shouldn't do......what could be the cause to this, and my fridge not keeping a cool temp? It's only 6 years old by the way, and clean.
