Is it absolutely necessary to dig up the grass sod when I am landscaping and putting in plants and mesh/matting and mulch?
I have always wondered about this question. Couldn't I just plant everything I want and then put down the matting over the sod and shovel the mulch on top of it or do I have to dig up all that sod?

Today I tried to put a load in the dryer (an electric Maytag) and turned it on and it would NOT START.. I opened the dryer and I saw a red glow inside that kind of freaked me out it almost looked like it was going to start fire but when i turn the switch on off it will fade away. We only had this dryer for a year but we use it everyday because there are alot of people in my family. Any ideas what the plm might be and how to get it fixed and how much?

I am planning to rebuild a fence using common cedar fence boards. These are sold wet and rough. The last time I built, I cured the lumber for 3 months. I used a belt sander to smooth all sides. It came out really nice, but the sanding was no fun: 3 days of vibration, “sawdust-snowman”, inhaling cedar dust, cedar splinters in my eyes. At the time I told myself, “next time I am buying/renting a machine to smooth these boards”.

I was thinking about a portable surface planer and rigging a vacuum exhaust. But I am not sure that the planer can handle all the warping cedar fence boards tend to have. Would a surface planner work for my application?

I’ve also seen surface drum sanders, and I know these are specifically designed for this application. But it seems like there are only commercial (ie >$500) machines available? Any ideas?

My husband pulled up the carpet in our hallway to reveal what we thought was going to be nice hardwood, similar to the rest of the floors in our new home. Instead he found an unsalvageable mess. There has obviously been some water damage in the past. There are mold spots, the wood has actually shrunk causing gaps between the slats, and the wood is dull and splintering. Can anyone recommend a cleaning method and some product to use to stop the mold growth before we put down new carpeting?

I have a bedroom that is 9x11. Inside of my room I have a bed, a wall of closets (so I can't use that wall), a large dresser, a set of book shelves, and craft boxes. All of this in my room makes it look so small! I'm renting the house I live, so I can't paint or make too many changes to the room, but I'd like to make it look larger or just give myself more space. Any suggestions?

I have moved into an industrial space and it has no shower, and no running hot water (ie. no boiler). I use an industrial catering kettle for hot water when washing myself and the pots, but I need to install a shower.

Can I do it? Do electric showers heat the water from cold? Or do I need to pour the hot water from the catering kettle in to it somehow?

Would be grateful for any help

Any idea what it would cost? I'm thinking marble would be just as much. I like how granite shines. I don't think there's a arborite that shines as much. Is there?

They are EVERYWHERE in my house! There the small, red kind. Any tips would be nice.

If I ever leave any food out-- snacks, cereal, baking ingredients-- or in my cupboards and cabinets, ants get into them. Wheter they were closed well or not. Remember that these ants are very SMALL. Any tips on how to prevent this?

Thanks.

We have in excess of 20 pine trees that we wish to remove from our residential property in Jacksonville. Are there any companies/individuals that would remove the trees in return for the resultant lumber/wood products?

I LOVE retro stuff, like from the 50's, 60's, and 70's, and I really want to redo my bedroom in that kind of theme. Where can I get furniture (in good condition) and home decor (including bedding) from those eras? Also, any tips on how to decorate? Thanks :)

I have tried Magic Eraser, vinegar, Bar Keeper's Friend, Comet liquid cleanser, Scrubbing Bubbles. I do not like to use anything that has a high chemical odor or something that requires rubber gloves, which I cannot wear due to allergies. I know that the compound stuff takes off oxidation on a car and I was just wondering if anyone else tried this and found it to work? I rent so I do not want to damage the tub until I am 100% sure this will work. I would follow it up with Eagle One Wax As You Dry to keep the buildup from coming back(I know not to use it where your feet come in contact with the tub).
