Can you plant tulips that you have bought in planters that have already bloomed? If so when do you plant them and how do you plant them?

Cut off stalks, let rest in basement or brown paper bag. Plant in fall about three inches deep.

If I am transferring bulbs that have bloomed in pots to outside I wait until the hardest frosts are done. You for sure can put tulips into you boxes and they will return next year. If it is really cold and they are not very deep they may get nipped, but I have grown tulips in one of my big barrels and they returned year after year. You can get bulbs in the fall in most climates and plant them as deep as the directions will tell you. They get planted pointy side up. You could add a bit of bulb food or bone meal, which they seem to like.
