I have moved into an industrial space and it has no shower, and no running hot water (ie. no boiler). I use an industrial catering kettle for hot water when washing myself and the pots, but I need to install a shower.

Can I do it? Do electric showers heat the water from cold? Or do I need to pour the hot water from the catering kettle in to it somehow?

Would be grateful for any help

Vickezo - why would you think I was joking?!?

The reason I can't install a boiler is simple - it would be very expensive and a big hassle, and I don't intend to be here for ever. I am on a shorthold tenancy.

I was hoping the shower could be something I could do myself with very little hassle.

Squish: I am in the UK. In case you don't know it, it's that little Island off the West Coast of Russia.

Derek I: Nice try, but I have had a search, and it seems travel showers aren't available in the UK. Unless anyone can tell me otherwise? I imagine it's something to do with health & safety standards - but it's a shame 'cause they seem good.

How An Electric Shower Works

You could use an instant hot water heater for your washing and an electric shower unit for the shower. Both need a heavy electrical cable as they use lots of power. A good electric shower heats water from cold and will use 6 or 7 kilowatts. Get them from any plumbers merchants.
By the way, are you living in the industrial space? Does it have building regulations approval for use as a living space?

For an 8.5 kilo watt shower you will need a minimum of 6mm twin & earth cable being fed from a 45amp fuse. Cold mains fed water directly to shower inlet. Switch on. Hey Presto!!!
Please follow local authority guidelines.

The shower heats the water itself. It'll be easier if you already have previous points and pipes installed for this, in which case you only have to hook up and electrify the shower. Bit more expensive if you have to install new plumbing. Don't know about you doing it yourself. Only if you are competent with plumbing and basic electrician.

you need a boiler to heat the water. The electric aspect of the shower is only to decide how hot the water is thats coming out of the shower head.

Go to a CAMPER and RV DEALER and they will have a show room full of showers to use while camping and some of them will be just what you are looking for then when you don't need it any more you can re sale it to a camper.

there is a company called insinkerator (they make garbage disposals but also intant hot water heaters). they makes a small water heater that runs on 110v power. all you need to do is hook it up to the hot (left) side of the shower and you have a hot shower.
