Sounds like hot glue is the only thing that will hold it for you.

Is there anyway they would let you drill a tiny hole in it for a tiny hook?? Probably not, but if you could, that would be the most confident way that it wouldn't fall down during your event:) You could go in and use some Liquid Nails or JB Weld...just put a glob of it where you need it, and run a length of wire through it. Tape the wire in place, with the wire imbedded in it, until it dries, then you could use the wire to wrap around your fabric at that point. You won't have to worry about it falling;) It wouldn't take much, and probably wouldn't be noticeable when you take your fabric down. You may be able to chisel the spot off the ceiling if you would have to.
Good Luck!!

Get a smallish piece of wood, say 6" square and fix it to the ceiling with a dollop of plaster, and hold it in place while setting with a prop from the floor. When set in place you can use drawing pins into the wood to fix the fabric. When finished use a cold chisel and hammer to clean off plaster and wood. And for a fabulous lampshade or wedding present visit www.pure3design.biz or go to their eBay Shop for brilliant gear.

Assuming the ceiling is flat.....Create some 3"X3" pads from for example 9 mm ply, put hooks or whatever on the pads, get some really tough double sided tape,(Homebase have wide, re-enforced tape) Cover your pads with tape, stick them up on ceiling.

Try a hot glue gun and make the globs of glue atleast a quarter size. Another suggestion could be velcro that is sticky on both sides.

have you tried sticky back velcro? sticks like double sided tape but as it's velcro its stronger plus it should stick to stone ok.
each side of the velcro is sticky so it will be hidden.
most art shops should sell it., it's not expensive either, i think i paid £1.50 for 1.5 metres of it
