Upright vacuum cleaner recommendations?

Question

I am looking for a vacuum that is under $150 that is really good on hardwood floors and pet hair. I have a few area rugs, but mostly hardwood floors. Can any of you recommend a really good one? My vacuum was a Dirt Devil, which wasn't that great to begin with. But it finally died today. I think the cat hair was too much for it. I recently got a cat and he sheds like crazy, so I need one that's really good with pet hair as well. Thanks.

I am the vacuum cleaner destroyer!!! Dirt Devil's were horrible for me.

I got a FANTUM FURY now for quick sweep ups and it works well. It has a container instead of a bag which is awesome! But it takes HEPA filters. I buy them in bulk on EBAY. I had it about three years and only changed the filter twice. It cost (if I remember correctly) $149.00. Google it for their site.

I think sweepers with containers are just so much cleaner then bags especially with pet hair. My real vacuum is a RAINBOW. It was $2000.00 but my husband bought it for me before we got married. BEST PRESENT I EVER GOT. I love to clean!!! I actually polish it after I use it. It is the only sweeper I take care of. I can even spray paint with the darn thing, REALLY!!!!

Yeah, Wal-mart was a good suggestion. Get a cheapy with a container and see how it works on your floors. WARNING! I did this for $39.99 at Wal-Mart but the vacuum hose was so short for the wand I had to order an expensive extension. SHOULD have just took it back.

I use the eureka mighty might The boss. My old one just quit working after 13 years and I went and found a new one. Had to get it at Ace Hardware. I use it on my area rugs, Hardwood floors, congoleum floors. I have a black chow and it picks up all her hair. And the Mighty mite ( the boss ) was around $80.00! Make sure you can get vacuum cleaner bags for it first though.

I've got a Bissell Powerforce..they are about $49~ at Wal-Mart. It has been thru everything~~I'm TOUGH on vacumms~and whenever/if it finally kicks, I'm going to buy another one! They have great suction, and the price is definately right:) Go get one, give it a try and if you don't like it, you can always take it back to Wal-Mart:) I don't have hardwood floors though, but it does great on carpet! Have you tried a Swiffer for your hardwood? They work pretty good on ceramic tile:) Get it at Wal-Mart too, and take it back too if you don't like it:)
