Growing up we always placed glasses and cups rim down to keep out dust (I guess), but I am moving to London soon and wonder if others store their glasses rim up or rim down...anybody???

Me personally, my mom wouldn't let me mess with HER machines until I moved out when I was almost 19 and my husband had to show me how, lol.
With my oldest I started letting her use them with supervision at about 15 and now she is almost 18 and does it all by herself.
My next to the oldest is almost 13 and I am wondering when to start teaching her how to do her own laundry maybe in about a year or less.

Your thoughts or experiences?

Bamboo can be made into counter tops.
Can the same type of thing be done as an alternative to traditional, hardwood flooring?

I have a large bird of paradise bush, similar to a flax, but with beautiful orange flowers, but it has gotten far to big, and is taking over. Is there a safe way I can trim it back without damaging its growth?

Our old home has a basement for our dog kennels. We have just bought a new townhouse to move closer to our jobs and we must now move the kennels into the 2 car garage. The garage ceiling is insulated and sits below our kitchen. Both walls that we share with our neighbors in the townhouse are insulated. It was 18F today and the garage was just too cold for me to feel comfortable leaving the animals for a few hours a day.

I want to add a heater for their comfort but don't want to pay insane electric bills or kill em with fumes.

What is the best way to keep these guys comfortable through the winter without breaking the bank?

We have a varnished pine blanket box that has a few spots of varnish missing due to an accident with drips of nail polish remover. Is it possible to just re-varnish those areas or will we have to get the whole top redone?

I don't understand why everyone wouldn't use this if it is so reliable and runs indefinitely without electric power? Does anyone have one and tried it? Is it really as quiet as it adverises ( supposedly "silent")

My son fell asleep while cooking beans. When he woke up they were very burnt and the house smelled bad. This was Friday night. The house still smells. He has tried sprays, candles, potpourri, warming oils as well as leaving the house open since Friday. I would appreciate any and all suggestions.

I live on the south coast of New South Wales, does anyone know the best way to get rid of wasps nests. I have at least 6 around my home, about 5cm in diameter. I have always just left them alone but I have 2 little kids and one of them got stung this afternoon. When is the best time to do it?

I need some real advice on what color of laminate kitchen counter top to install that would look nice with our medium wood stained oak cabinets. If the cabinets are considered to be of a darker color do you want to go with a lighter counter top or a dark counter top or does it matter? BTW The walls in the kitchen are white and the flooring has neutral earthones if that helps any.
