I don't understand why everyone wouldn't use this if it is so reliable and runs indefinitely without electric power? Does anyone have one and tried it? Is it really as quiet as it adverises ( supposedly "silent")

Electric sump pumps are more economic to buy and to run so are more practical for a primary sump pump. a water powered sump pump is a good back up pump if you have municipal water that is not interrupted in a power outage, if you have a well and pump your own water when the power goes out your well pump won't work so the water powered sump pump can't work either yes I have one for a back up pump and it is all most silent you can't hear the pump but you can hear the water running when it is on

You'll have to use many times more water to pump out the flooded water. Essentially you're using the energy stored in the water pressure from your water company to power your pump. As you extract water from the water line, you use a lot of water. Depending on where you live, water cost is relatively expensive (much more than using electric powered pump).
A better solution is to attach a manually powered water pump to a stationary bicycle. You and and your family provide the energy to power the pump and everybody gets exercise and it doesn't cost you a penny to operate it (just intial cost to rig one up).

it's meant to be a back up in case your sump pump fails. it would run your water bill up if you only used it and not an electric, but it's cheaper than water damage if the power went out. saw it on this old house. good luck.
