I'm a junior doctor, living in hospital accommodation with 2 other people sharing a kitchen and living room. One of my flatmates keeps cooking fish (at least a couple of times a week) and it makes the whole flat stink for days. Personally, I hate fish and even the smell of it makes me feel physically sick, however I'm well aware of the fact that I can't expect her to stop eating fish just because of me!

So how can I best get rid of the smell from the flat? I've tried scented candles and various different air freshener sprays, but nothing seems to be able to overpower the smell of fish. I'd REALLY appreciate any advice on this!

Hi there! I may be moving out of my first apartment very soon, and I was wondering if anyone can give me some tips as to what I should do to prepare for the move. I don't have a lot of stuff, but you always think that until you start to organize things. I don't have any furniture to move, because this place is furnished. Should I pack things according to each room first, like say do all the kitchen packing at once, etc. Also, what are some things that landlords look for as in damaged things, ya know little things that they could hold your deposit for? Any help and tips are greatly appreciated.

I'm painting an apartment for the next tenant and the walls aren't in the best shape, but I only want to spend the time to paint it, not drywall over it. I've used plain white in the past, but found that it really enhanced the flaws. Any ideas?

My sister lives in Tyler Texas and she says that they do not have basements there. They have "red soil". Well, I live in Ky, and we have "brown soil" and we DO have basements. So what about Texas dirt makes it unsuitable for basements?

I mainly like country style but don't know how to bring my room together. I love flea market and auction finds to be incorporated in my home. I would also like to make the dining area feel like an extension of the living room since it's separated by a very large opening. Any advice on finding help?

Me and my family have lived in our apartment for almost a year now. All the cabinets in the kitchen have a small smoke/ash odor to them, especially under the sink. We have tried Lysol, candles, anything you can think of to make the smell go away, but nothing has worked. Any ideas? Thanks.

I just bought my dream home...only she's a 125 year old fixer upper and needs some work.

I need to repair all the walls, which are all old plaster and wood lathe. There are lots of cracks and crumbles on the walls and ceilings but over the fireplace, there are big sections of exposed lathe with no plaster at all from where water ran down the chimney and leaked inside. (I have already addressed the all the leaks and put new flashing around the chimney)

I plan to repair small cracks with plaster and larger peices will be fitted with drywall. The finish is going to be textured to help hide repairs. I think I've got that much down and I'm pretty sure I can tackle it, but my question still is prep work and where do I start? what should I do first?

I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks!

I've just installed a washing machine using a cold water feed and have no need (at the moment) for the hot water feed pipe. It's got a tap at the end but I also want to seal it somehow. Where can I get something to seal/blank it off?

I'm going to paint the inside of my house in Florida. The tile floors are all terra cotta. I've decided to paint all the rooms different shades of terra cotta from very light to somewhat dark. Should I paint the two small bedrooms a light color (including the ceiling using the same color) in order to make it seem larger? How about the LR which has a vaulted ceiling? Dark colors to make it cozy? Again, how about the ceiling in this large room? The rooms all have quite a bit of natural light.

How about the trim? And the doors? White? or maybe a cream?

I've just moved into a new house, but the garden is a very hard clay soil that lets hardly any water drain away. Please let me know what I should do. Do I dig all the grass up and re-compost or what?
