They are 2 different wood grains. The best you can do is get some Oak stain. (When they say Oak stain - that means oak colored stain.) The word colored is dropped. I would use the oil based(solvent) stain which is semi-transparent which you apply on with a brush, wait a minute and wipe off. The stain that remains is the color. You may want to make it darker, which means putting on the stain again, waiting and rubbing off. Rubbing off, hides the brush marks. Use a cotton cloth(like a bedsheet) Experiment first on a piece of similiar wood as beam. The colors you see are done on yellow pine board.

Punch tiny holes in it with an awl, hit it a few times with an old chain or something that won't damage the surrounding area, then make sure there is no old varnish on it and then hit it with a couple of coats of Danish Oil with an oak stain - Homebase stock one with a shade called Jacobean Oak. I used this on some 4x2 pine to make a fire surround, and on an old coffee table top to make a stereo shelf - they both look like antique oak.

You can buy stain that makes pine look similar to oak. Home Depot and Loews carries it. It's by Varathane or Minwax.

Treat them with respect and Danish oil and they will be good for another 150 years. The danish oil will protect them from the exposure to damp and two coats will bring out the grain of the wood....wonderful. It may smell a little for a few weeks or so but it will eventually go. Word of caution wear a face mask when applying the oil as it can make your face feel as though it is on fire. Not good to breathe in so leave a window open when applying. Eee I feel rite jealous you 'aving proper beams like! lol
