Also, make sure you change your filter regularly during the months the A/C runs the most. This is the number one reason a AC unit will freeze up.

do you mean the compressor is actually freezing ? Not sure which part of the world you are in but when I had that problem in Toronto one summer I just turned on the heat for about 20min which thawed the AC unit and solved the problem. You may be somewhere in the world where you do not ever need heat - hence you can't do what I did. Usually the AC unit freezes because the outside temp is colder than the inside temp you are trying to cool. IN other words you have the AC on perhaps at night when the temp outside is cool -turn the temp up to avoid the freezing at night. Hope this helps (?)

No need to worry about an AC freezing. The compressor has a heater in it that keeps it warm at all times. You must leave the power ON . Do not turn the breaker off on a an AC it need to have that to keep the compressor heater energized. AND no need to go starting an AC in the winter time either.
