I have moved into a home and it has a real problem with mice. I have tried various methods of getting rid of them from traps to poison and they will not leave. To tell you the truth, I don't think that the poison did anything. I see that the poison has been eaten, but then I find green mouse droppings which to me means that the poison just passed right through! Anyone have anything that they have done to help get rid of these pests?

My daughter spilled milk or some other liquid on her bedroom floor and a piece of paper actually is stuck on the hardwood now. Is there something I can use to soak this off without damaging the wood? She hid this from me by covering it, so it has been there long enough to dry. Help!

My ten year old Kenmore dryer stopping heating so clothes they don't dry. Any idea what the problem might be and the cost to repair? I called sears and it's $69 an hour plus parts to have them come out or $169 for a 1 year warranty and repair. Would it be better to buy a new one and are the new GAS dryers really more energy efficient?

In my house I have hardwood floor, tiles, linoleum and carpet as floor coverings. I wonder if there is a vacuum out there that can vacuum as well as steam the various floor surfaces and do a good job. I have no pets so hair is not a big problem. I know of a few name brands (Dyson, Oreck, Kirby, Miele, etc.) but am not familiar with which model that can do the job. If you have experience with a good one can you tell me the brand and model name? Thanks.

When I chose the floors I thought they would be a very shiny-finish cherry, however, their finish is very dull and, in my opinion, unattractive. Is there a product that I can apply to them which will make them shiny on a permanent basis? Is this something I could do myself or should I hire a professional to do it? If I use wax how often would I have to reapply it, would it accomplish my purposes and how often would I have to strip it? Thank you in advance for your answers.

1. My son's incredibly messy bedroom and our never-really-organized office inhabit the career centers of our home. Short of cleaning them up (the obvious) what can be done to enhance the career areas of our lives?

2. Last year we installed a fence around our backyard. As our house sits on the edge of a mountain, we had to stair-step our fence away from our house -- anathema to the financial equilibrium of the household. And, anecdotally, we have had the worst financial year since our early years of marriage. What can we do to counteract the effect of the fence (money flowing away from the house) without removing the fence?

Specifically, I have a few larger ticket items, such as some nice living room/dining room furniture that I got from a decorator about 7 years ago. It was hardly used, but the sofa was about $1500 and I have a set of 4 matching upholstered parsons chairs that were about $1200.

Is it fair to label the sofa $20 and the set of 4 chairs for $20 and be willing to bargain down to $16 for each?

I have no idea, since I normally take goods and donate them.
